ABOUT ABOUT

Finnigan Productions presents the sequel to the Brian Walker’s hugely popular sex comedy romp dirty sexy derby play, The Last Party, running April 6, 7, 8, 12, 13, 14, 15, 19, 20, 21, 22 at 7:30pm at The Bard’s Town Theatre, located at 1801 Bardstown Road.

dirty sexy derby play first premiered at The Kentucky Center for the Arts Mex Theater in the fall of 2008 to sold out crowds.  It has since proven to be a popular play for local audiences, selling out over the course of its four different productions in Louisville over the last ten years.  It’s the story of Vanessa and Carl, a couple on the brink of divorce, who struggle to put the pieces of their lives back together after a series of devastating tornadoes swept through Louisville in the spring of 1974.  It’s the swinging 70’s and they decide to throw a key party on Derby Day for their friends.  Over the course of the evening secrets are revealed, everyone’s life is altered in some way or another and Vanessa and Carl’s marriage becomes extinct.

The Last Party finds the entire cast of characters ten years later, on Derby Day, but this time the group has been gathered by Victor, who came out of the closet at the party in 1974.  It’s now 1984 and Victor is dying of the new gay cancer and he wants to celebrate one last Derby with the people who were at the key party ten years ago that changed his life for the better.  There are splints and cracks and breaks among them that he’s convinced he can help mend before it’s too late.  He’s purchased a private suite on millionaire’s row and has invited everyone who was at the key party to attend.

dirty sexy derby play was about revenge and destruction, The Last Party is about redemption and putting the pieces back together.

The Last Party was commissioned and is being co-produced by Louisville lawyer and actor Andy Epstein.  Epstein played the role of Victor in the second Louisville production of dirty sexy and since has dreamed of a sequel, curious about what happened to the characters after ten years.

The Last Party was written, being co-produced and directed by Louisville native and artistic director of Finnigan Productions and Derby City Playwrights, Brian Walker.  Walker’s previous writing/producing credits include Great American Sex Play, fb:  a ghost story, The Friend Factory, High Tide and Finnigan’s Festival of Funky Fresh Fun.

The Last Party’s cast of local talents includes Kelly Kapp, Ben Unwin, Meghan Logue, Corey Long, Michael Roberts, Bryce Woodard, Briana Clemerson, Andy Epstein as Victor and Natalie Fields as Vanessa.

Crew includes stage manager and sound design by Shaun Kenney, assistant stage manager Roufia Saleh, costumes by Carol Dines and sets by Patrick Jump.

Poster design by Colin Gatenbee.
